Proto-Review of Eivind Kirkeby's "Homf!"
By Marshall O'Keeffe

This is a cool li'l pamphlet, not really a comic; more of a proto-comic.

Thus, a proto-review!

I can just picture the author, who sent this little bijou to Comic Book Galaxy almost a year ago, waiting hopefully for a response, and then just waiting, waiting...moodily eating ludefisk (Is that how it is spelt?) whilst staring out of his window into the Nordic twilight...

I had not the heart to allow it to go on!

Plus, some of my best friends are Norselanders, so...

So, I picked up what at first did not look too promising.... it appeared to be a little pamphlet with a crude though cute drawing on the cover.

What a surprise! At first I was not too impressed, but by the time the first story got to nailing puppies to the wall, Eivind had got my attention!

I really enjoyed this little book, which shows a subtle yet twisted sense of humor. Johnny the Homicidal Maniac probably read these comics when he was a small child.

This guy shows a lot of potential. He really needs to hook up with an artist who can compliment his twisted, zany style of writing. Or, work on improving his own artistic skills! Better art would really help fill these ideas out. With the right artistic support, I think this stuff could be a great success.

A gem worth investigating! Eivind Kirkeby may become Norway's answer to James Kochalka! (Not that I recall that James has ever asked Norway a question...) Grade: 4/5
